DRY SKIN BRUSHING

This is one of my favorite health AND beauty Tips. It is beneficial in the removal of toxic build up and cellulite, while offering rejuvenating effects on the nervous system. It stimulates the lymph system and enhances blood circulation - building a healthier immune function.

Your skin is the largest eliminative organ of your body. It also assimilates (so what you put ON your skin, absorbs INTO your skin) Dry skin brushing will help take the stress off your internal elimination organs such as the lungs and kidneys. This will allow your body to eliminate through the newly opened pores as it is meant to do. Because of pollution, poor diet, stress and lotions we slather on every day, the skin pores become clogged and trap toxins beneath the layers. Millions of dead skin cells build up and trap impurities inside, overworking the other organs. Trapped toxins beneath the skins surface is what contributes to cellulite.

Here is the technique: Use a natural loofa sponge or a bristle brush (not synthetic, as it can scratch the skin) Make sure your skin is DRY. This is the secret. You want to slough off the dead skin. If you were to stand on a black sheet, you would see billions of dead skin cells that you cleansed off your body. This is a Naturopathic bath. You can probably start anywhere, but I have clients start at the chest area. Lightly make circular motions. You are just wanting to rosey the skin and increase lymph movement and circulation. Move out to the sides, belly, back and all reachable areas. Go gently around the breast area and arm pit as you want to flush the lymph nodes here. When you get to the limbs, always start from the farthest, moving in towards your heart. Using circular motions all the while. Do hands and arms moving inward, and feet and legs moving upward. You can dry skin brush before a bath or shower, or before you get dressed in the morning. Personally, I feel like I am suffocating if I don't dry skin brush. Many clients tell me they are addicted and their body demands the brushing. Your skin will look younger, and you will be healthier. So if you haven't done this, get brushing... For the health of it!

*When dry skin brushing is done before a bath, be cautious of the oils or bath soap that you use. Your dead skin cells are sloughed off, so you are ready to absorb nutrients! If you are using essential oils, be sure to mix them with a carrier oil - and go lightly! Peppermint on cleansed pores can give you chills! The absorption is quick. This is a great time for your detox herbal bath. Try Natures Indulgence Herbal tea bath formulas. Available at Holistic Alternatives. You can also absorb the bad ingredients, so be cautious not to use chemically laden formulas.

I tell my clients that there are two very important secrets that can change your health. Dry skin brushing, and 8-10 glasses of pure water daily.

Please exercise common sense with skin brushing. If you have open sores, infection, or skin ailments of any kind, do not brush over this area. If you have any disease that would imply against this, do not skin brush.
